Soccer in Italy is like a religion and it's by far the most common sport both in terms of players and in terms of fans.
The Nazionale is currently holding the wolrd title all the Italians have the feeling of being a little bit world Champions.
The strong releationship with Calcio is also driven by the good results of the Italian Football Club that make Italy the second reality in Europe just behind Spain.

Italy World Champion 2006
The Italian National Football Team is the selection of the Italian Football Association and represents Italy in all the competiotion reserved to national teams.
Italy is the current World Champion after the Victory in Germany 2006 and after Brasil is the most winning team of the history with 4 World Championship.
Italy won also the Olympic Games of 1936 and the European Championship in 1968.
In September started the qualification for the next big appointment: 2012 European Championship.
Once again the whole Italy will stop doing everything, but just watching at the television the games of the Nazionale.

Italy has thousands of fottball clubs and more than sixty of them won the Championship in the almost 110 years of A Series.
First italian football club has been founded in Turin in 1891 and was named International Turin (the current Torino Football Club still belongs to it).
The oldest team still existing is Genoa www.genoacfc.it founded in 1893.
Juventus FC is the Italian most winning team in the italian competition with 27 championship Scudetti and 9 Italy Cup, while AC Milanwww.acmilan.com is the italian team that won the most in Europe. Regardless the records, both big towns and small villages have excellent football clubs that fascinate more than 200 Millions of fans worldwide (about 3 times the Italian population).
